SUPPORTING PARAGRAPH 1: For being able to adapt in new circumstances

• Applying for a degree of study outside the comfort zone
• Necessary of willing to try out new things in order to enjoy and survive unfamiliar situations and able to understand difficult materials that haven’t been learned before
• My choice to study accounting that I was completely novice at since I had never been taught about it before

SUPPORTING PARAGRAPH 2: For increasing creativity at solving problems

• Finding a solution to complete difficult assignment
• Necessary of willing to try out new things in order to think differently and quickly find a method  to solve the problem
• I used several methods to complete my research about tax amnesty so that I can finish faster than the others

CONCLUSION                            By trying out new things we will be more creative and easier adapt in new circumstances

INTRODUCTION

          The world is always rapidly changing and renewing in every aspect and somewhat waiting to be explored. People are aware that this situation is inevitable yet some people tend to stay at their comfort zone and refuse to take a risk by accepting the change. This attitude may give them advantage to be completely proficient at their domain although in the end they are often left behind and unable to survive the competition. By looking at this fact, I always think that go out of our comfort zone and try out some new things might be the answer to the world revolution rather than do the same thing and stick to what we know. However, there is nothing that never had a risk and also there will be no future if no one tries new things. Thus, I prefer to try new things than to stick and stay doing the same thing over and over again. I will elaborate some advantages of trying out new things in these folowing paragraphs.

Task 2 "Story"

It was the event that changed my whole life. It happened about 3 years ago when I was accepted to accounting major in Gunadarma University to be exact. This acceptance was the turning point event I've talked about earlier. Why do I call this event a turning point that change my whole life? I've always wanted to be a doctor. To be accepted in accounting major is totally an opposite path from being a doctor for sure. I have never thought about it as a bad thing, though. I always feel grateful instead. I am sure that Allah has set the best plan for me, and this is part of His plan.

In the first years, I faced difficulties in study. This whole accounting related things were new for me since I took natural science subjects in high school and had never learned about accounting before. But as time passed by I managed to study hard, ask about difficult materials to my lecturer, seniors, and friends, and eventually was able to learn a lot of new things in accounting. Now, I can finally start to enjoy my study and always work to the fullest to achieve understanding and good remarks in every subject. 

For my short-term goal I hope I can graduate soon with excellent results. And as for my long term goal I hope that someday I can pursue a career in the field of accounting and contribute great things for humanity. To be involved in the field in accounting is a surprise that I never expected before. That is why I called it my turning point event and it is always going to be something I feel happy and grateful for.

Task 1 "Introduction"

My name is Anisah Widiah Rachmaningtias. People usually call me Icha for short. I was born in Bekasi on May 20th 1996. My hobbies are singing and watching drama series. Other activities that I enjoy to do are spending my leisure time with my family and socializing with my friends.

My short term goal is once I finished my study, I want to be an accountant or a banker. On the other hand, I also have long term goal which is to be an entrepeneur after finishing my postgraduate study. I want to establish my own consultant company.

I would describe myself as an organized and hardworking person. My strength is my attitude that I always try my best and give everything  that I have to achieve my goals. I am a quick learner and a good listener. Nonetheless, I also embrace this attitude that I scope for improvement that is I wont leave any ask in completely.

Being proficient in english is quite important nowadays as we know that it is our international language. many institutions need their members or applicants to be fluent in english. english proficiency of the member or applicants often measured by various tests. one of them is TOEFL test.

Definition About TOEFL

The Test of English as a Foreign Language, or TOEFL, is a test which measures people’s English language skills to see if they are good enough to take a course at University or graduate school in English-speaking countries. It is for people whose native language is not English. It measures how well a person uses listening, reading, speaking and writing skills to perform academic tasks. This test is accepted by more than 7,500 colleges, universities, and agencies in more than 130 countries; which means it is the most widely recognized English test in the world. TOEFL includes three aspects:

1. Listening Comprehension
2. Structure and Written Expression
3. Reading Comprehension

Functions of TOEFL

1. Entrance or graduation requirements at the level of institutions of higher education in Indonesia.
2. Placement test and evaluation test in language institutions.
3. Requirements for a list of scholarship programs such as: Australian Development Scholarships, StuNed, DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service), ACHIEVEMENT, Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Program and programs of government agencies such as the Ministry of Communication and Information.
4. Part of the program of education, training and career development of government institutions such as Depantemen Overseas Education and Training.

Experience and Step of the TOEFL

TOEFL test is a test to measure our english proficiency. This test is commonly taken by people from countries where English is not the first language. Most of the time, it is required to take this test when we are planning to apply for a scholarship or a job. As one of many scholarship applicants, I used to take this test. The TOEFL test consists of three sections: listening comprehension, structure and written expressions and reading comprehension.

LISTENING COMPREHENSION

We will listen to either a conversation or description by english speakers and have to answer the questions correctly. This section won’t be much trouble if we listen to the recordings carefully. I did occasionally find this section troublesome as I would panic and couldn’t follow certain recordings. I was then unable to answer several questions. The key is to stay focused and don’t panic because some questions are linked to one another.

STRUCTURE AND WRITTEN EXPRESSIONS

Most people would find this section the most difficult. It also has the shortest given time to answer the questions. We need to broaden our vocabularies and strengthen our awareness in sentence structures/grammars to pass this section. The choices available are similar, which makes it difficult to choose the correct answer.

READING COMPREHENSION

Don’t be too hasty but don’t be too slow by reading the passages in their entirety. If you read the whole passage, you will run out of time and be left with many questions unanswered. Take a look at the question first then find the related answer in the passage. The difficult part of this section for me is the vocabularies as they are usually uncommon in daily conversation. You have to read plenty of articles or other similar writings to learn new words.

That is my opinion of the TOEFL test based on my experience. It wasn’t easy but with proper preparation you will achieve excellent results in the end.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to complain about the two desk fluorescent. I bought from your company on the internet and about how I was treated by a member of your staff when I phoned to ask for a solution to the problem.

In the first place, I ordered it the on 12th September and I was promised they would arrive in three days. However, I had to wait to receive them for over one week. then, when they arrived and I opened the box, I was shocked to see that one of them was broken. Clearly, they had not been packaged properly.

Secondly, when I phoned to complain, I was very disappointed by the way in which I was treated. The staff member who spoke to was extremely rude and did not offer me any form of refund or replacement

I would be grateful if you could send me a replacement immediately. If this is not possible, I would like a full refund of my money. Thank you for your help with this incident.

Explanation:
1. A letter of complaint, or complaint letter, is normally written to deal with a problem situation when other attempts (i.e. phone contacts, e-mails, etc.) have failed to rectify the situation. The complaint letter formalizes a problem situation by putting it into writing and is usually the last resort to try to get a situation resolved.

Sebuah surat keluhan, atau surat keluhan, biasanya ditulis untuk menangani situasi masalah ketika upaya lain (misalnya kontak telepon, e-mail, dll) telah gagal untuk memperbaiki situasi. Surat pengaduan meresmikan situasi masalah dengan menempatkan ke dalam tulisan dan biasanya pilihan terakhir berusaha untuk suatu situasi diatasi.

2. As a frequent customer of online shops, I found that bad experiences with their services or products may occur. so that, I thought precaution is needed to deal with this kind situation. I need to understand how to complain politely in order to get a positive and helpful respond towards my complain on their bad service. Although we are able to simply complain throught e-mail/ phone nowadays, letters remain generally the most reliable and effective way complain, especially for serious complaints departements might receive more letter fully. The only letters that are read fully are the most concise, clear, compact letters. That's why i chose to write complaint letter to complete Business English class assignment so that I would be able to apply it in real life when bad experience of online shopping happen to me.
